Water softeners in Bangor Maine is a like a “tale of two cities”. Many commercial facilities will benefit greatly by having a water softener. However, most houses on city water will see little benefit from a water softener. The city water is relatively soft. By contrast, much of the rural areas have private wells. Many of the private wells have VERY HARD WATER. Many also have iron water and low pH. On these private wells, water softeners prevent lots of problems brought on by hard water and other contaminants commonly found in water. Other communities have hard water and other problems in private wells and city or community water supplies. I will comment on some of those in future posts.
