Hard water in Maine…. Yes, much of Maine has hard water… especially on private water wells. Just plain hard water leaves white spots or whitish staining in tubs, showers & toilet bowls. Add Iron water and you get yellow-to-orange stains with associated odors. Manganese causes similar stains. Sometimes manganese will have a residual sulfur-like odors accompanying the staining. Many times, there are more serious (health related) contaminants. Often, filtration for the more serious problems requires the hardness, iron & Manganese be removed first to prevent damage & scale buildup on the filter for the more serious problems. Here it is critical that the consumer hire a WQA “Certified Professional”, “Certified Water Specialist”. If your Water Conditioning Contractor doesn’t get it right. You could ruin the filters and end up with a worse problem than what you started with. Mainely Water LLC will look at your water tests and make the right recommendations for mitigating hard water and any other issues with your water.

Testing for Arsenic in Maine Water Wells
Testing for Arsenic in Maine Water Wells… This is becoming a bigger issue every day. There are currently at least 2 bills being ushered through the Maine House that seek to elevate testing of well water for disease causing contaminants and specifically testing for Arsenic. If you have a private well, you should have your water tested by an independent certified lab. There are several in Maine.
- Test before you buy a new house. If you don’t, the next buyer will. That would set you up to buy a new arsenic filter system for the next buyer while your family ingested that water for several years without the benefit of filtration…. because you didn’t know.
- Test your existing house. For the same reason. If you’re going to live in the house, live there knowing the water is safe and your family is safe from water problems.
We can guide you through the testing process. We don’t actually do the analysis. That could be considered a conflict of interest. But we can order the sample containers for you and in many cases, we can even draw the samples and send them in for analysis. Call us… 207-907-9772

Do I need water treatment equipment in Maine ?
Do I need water treatment equipment in Maine ? Maybe. If you’re asking, You haven’t done enough testing. Basic testing is very inexpensive. More extensive testing is a bit more. But if it turns out you actually have a problem with your water, wouldn’t you want to know ? Most folks are not hoping to get a Water Treatment System for Christmas. But if you have a well contaminated with Arsenic, you just might decide a Water Treatment System would be an awesome gift. Most of the bad-guys in water are tasteless, odorless & colorless. But that doesn’t mean they are not there.
Water softener Service & Repair
Water softener Service & Repair is a rare skill set. Most companies will advertise they “service all makes & models”. When you call they come out under the guise of “service” but after 10 minutes of investigation, they just try to sell you a new water softener. Now don’t get me wrong… sometimes that is exactly the best action. But most of the time, its just a scripted “service-to sales”… sales pitch. There are only a hand full of true manufacturers of water softener control valves. Expertise in repairing them is not rocket science. Anybody with a few years in the business should be able to perform effective service if the unit is save-able. If you have a 6 year old water softener that cost you less than $1,200 that is broken down, it would probably cost more to repair than to replace. If you have a 6 year old water softener that is of a better quality it is almost always fine to invest in repairs and save the extra money. What you don’t want to do is spend $800. on repairing a control valve and replacing the resin bed just to have ongoing chronic breakdowns. That’s usually what happens with the cheaper systems. A good service company might offer additional options that make more sense. Every service call is unique. The service person should be experienced in both effective long-term repairs as well as know when it’s time to bite the bullet and get a new water softener. Please feel free to call anytime. 207-907-9772
